Yesterday was day 4 for me in hot pursuit of this buck. I had been given permission to hunt this small parcel for the first time this year, so I decided to leave it sit until the late season arrived.
I like small pieces of timber for late season hunting for 2 main reasons; deer like to hide in these small areas and will avoid the large timber tracts here in Illinois after the second gun season and with the second rut coming in, it’s a perfect spot for them to remain in hiding. After spotting this guy on day 3 with a doe, it wasn’t until day 4 I was able to close in on him.
Good luck to everyone who’s still trying to fill tags! Don’t ever give up.

Awesome buck Marc. I was lucky enough to take a nice nine pointer from the ground with my bow in Indiana during October and I wanted to say that your websites nontypicalhunter.com and marcanthonyoutdoors.com have motivated and inspired me more to take on the challenge of ground hunting. One quick question for you if you get a chance.
Do you have any idea when or if some of the fall Ghillie Suits will be available and if so where can I get one. Last I heard they were sold out.
Clint
Hi Clint,
Thanks for the comments. The brown suits will be available in a couple of weeks and you can get one through us. I’ll announce their arrival and turn the store back on!
Thanks Marc
Mark,
Nice buck!
Had a question for you about late season hunts. You may not have the experience, since you probably tag out early each year, but do you change any technique with your suit in late season, especially when there is a snow on. Do you use the same fall suit and still just use a large tree to stand by if there are no other trees, brush, etc. around?
Same technique but I hunt over food, so sometimes I’ll grab some corn stalks, etc. and stuff them in the netting in my suit to blend in better. I still use trees, brush, corn fields, fence rows, etc.
Thanks for the prompt reply, Mark. Have you had much experience with the fall suit with snow on the ground and mainly only a large tree to stand by? Have the deer “picked you off” more in this scenario?
Going to try some late season tactics from the ground. Getting ready to go now.
Still trying,
Harlan
If there’s a lot of snow, I’ll put snow all over me. It won’t melt if you have a lot of clothes on underneath the suit. The outside layer (the suit) will remain cold. Usually, with the leaves all off the trees, standing behind a tree works really well!
